Dining Hall

I am thinking about the dining hall today and it is not just because we sent the past couple of days touring Biltmore in Asheville, North Carolina; the most extravagant home in America. That house had Dining Halls that were the size of football fields.  Check out my instragram feed for pictures from that trip.

We don’t have the deep pockets of the Vanderbilts and are trying to stay within budget on this build.  So what is it with the dining hall you ask?  I am thinking about how we are going to handle the bar/counter that separates the dining area from the entry hall.  I am proposing that we mount these  IKEA BESTA and KALLAX pieces on a box framed to the floor with framed half walls encasing them.  Do we have 130+ inches to work with in that opening?  This looks like a plan to me.   We have our cubbies on the hall side and then I have storage in drawers on the dining side.  The tricky part will be building up to box frames that they will sit fastened to so that the tops will be flush.  We would then mount a continuous countertop across all.
