The Tuff-n-Dri product is a two-part system in the finished basement. First, a membrane is applied to keep the water out. Secondly, a barrier board is installed to reinforce the waterproofing, add an R-3 insulation value, and reduce interior condensation. We elected to go with “membrane only” on the crawlspace to save some money.

The rough-in plumbing was actually pretty simple since there is only a half-bath in the basement. According to code, the wastewater pipe has to be lower than all other plumbing in the home so everything can work via gravity to the pipe heading to the street. Before heading to the street a gravity pump will need to be installed. It’s kind of scary to see plumbing that is going to covered up by concrete, but I guess if this house had been slab (as designed) ALL of the plumbing would have been in concrete! The basement floor is scheduled to be poured next week.
